About 15 kilometres west of Rotterdam, you can visit the picturesque and historical city of Maassluis. With its old tugboats, large church, and old, authentic houses, Maassluis is a perfect location for a nice city walk.

Historic tugboats

In old days, Maassluis was a busy place for harbour workers. Many of the port’s tugboats docked in the cities harbours until the next job waited for them. The tugboats helped the large ships with docking, and also made sure that the departure is carried out safely.

In the center of Maassluis, you can still see some of the older tugboats in the inner city harbour. If you are interested in the history of these ships and the harbour in general, you can visit the ‘Sleepvaart Museum’ which has existed for more than 40 years.
