Shopping in Rotterdam

Rotterdam is a great place for shopping. As every metropolis, the city offers a diverse range of shopping streets and shopping malls. All of them have their own atmosphere and characteristics. On this page, we list the best places to shop at. Shopping in Rotterdam is possible seven days a week.

Alexandrium

Alexandrium is a shopping area in the east of Rotterdam, that consists of three parts. There is an indoor shopping center, a range of megastores, and a living mall.

Close to train station Rotterdam Alexander you can find the Alexandrium Shopping Center, which houses both local and international brands. Outside, there is a boulevard with 17 megastores and on the other side of the boulevard, there is the indoor living mall. Inside the living mall, you will find about fifty stores. Most of them sell home interior products.

Zuidplein

At Zuidplein, you can find the biggest indoor shopping centre in the Netherlands. The mall houses more than 150 shops. In addition, several restaurants and caf├ęs are spread over the mall. There are also some hairdressers, nail salon's, and a photo studio. All stores at Zuidplein Shopping Mall are indoors, which makes Zuidplein a perfect shopping location on rainy days.

Rotterdam City Centre

The most popular shopping streets can be found in the heart of Rotterdam. Here you can find shopping streets like Koopgoot, Coolsingel and Lijnbaan. The city centre of Rotterdam can be divided into the main streets or areas that we list here.

  • Witte de Withstraat is a vibrant street with many great bars and restaurants. You can also find trendy boutiques and art galleries at Witte de With.
  • Central Plaza is a small indoor shopping mall, situated close to the Central Station. There are a few lunch and dining restaurants, a drugstore, a hairdresser, jewellery, and clothing stores. Holland Casino, one of the biggest casino's of The Netherlands, is located in Central Plaza
  • West-Kruiskade is also located near the Central Station. It is an area with many shops from different cultures. This is the place to go if you are looking for international food, drinks and products. There are many Toko's and small supermarkets that sell exotic food and drinks. It is also called the Chinatown of Rotterdam.
  • Lijnbaan is the busiest car-free shopping street in Rotterdam. Many large brands have a store on this boulevard, or in one of the nearby streets, such as Korte Lijnbaan.
  • Coolsingel does not only house Rotterdam's beautiful City Hall. There are some big warehouses too, such as the C&A and luxury mall 'De Bijenkorf'.
  • Hoogstraat is one of the oldest shopping streets in Rotterdam. It connects De Binnenrotte, Blaak, De Markthal, and the Coolsingel.

De Markthal

The Market Hall, 'De Markthal' is a building which houses an indoor market with delicacies and products from all over the world and has a number of apartments. In the Markthal, you can find many bars and restaurants, including Jamie Oliver's restaurant Jamie's Italian. The eye-catcher of the Markthal is the colourful ceiling, a 36.000 sq feet painting with brightly coloured fruits, vegetables, and other market goods.
